Had it earlier. Seriously, life post-op, for me, has been so amazing. Not one thing I would change.

I am pleased with my approach. I waited the 6 months and mentally got myself ready for the surgery and the aftermath. I personally think everyone need to prepare mentally, physically and socially for this surgery. I felt great about my physical and social states, mental is another story.

Today (post 8 months) I am really looking at my eating habits since I am finding myself doing some of my old habits... like grazing when I am not really hungry. I wish I spent more time with a coach/ therapist trying to identify any issues like binge eating before the surgery. I know I am a binge eater and if I knew this before surgery, I could have had strategies on how to deal. I am getting there now but wish I knew before surgery I have this compulsive behaviour.

I would have taken more time off work post-op. I took two weeks off and I think I should have taken a third, just because I was still on liquids and sipping 2 oz. every 15 minutes. Going back to work that third week was very stressful and I was not physically or mentally ready.

Do the surgery earlier for sure... although I had mine done fairly early at 20 years old.

Never reintroduce sugar or fake sugar into my diet again! BIG mistake

I agree with most ... I would have done it sooner ...

I wanted surgery years ago ... but at the time there was no approval from my insurance company and there was no way I could have paid for it myself ...

Fast forward 10 + years ... and my hubby made it possible for me to have the surgery I wanted for so long ...

It's really hard watching other family members and co-workers have the surgery you need so bad ...

BUT ... Good things come to those who wait ! :)

God blessed me in many many ways when I met my husband ... this is only one small one ...

Another thing I would have done differently ... ( this wont come out right ) ...

I wouldn't have asked my mother to stay with me for as long as she did ... she upset me more than she helped me ... :(

And to this day .... 5 months out ... she STILL pushes food on me ... UGH !

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
