How much did you lose ?

Recommended Posts

I am sure it depends on what type of liquid diet and for how long. Some were allowed a light meal at night and others it was strictly Protein Drinks.

I had a two week pre op liquid diet and it was Awful! Lost about 10 lbs on it though. I had a few mess ups the first week where I felt I would starve to death and ate veggies to hold me over. You will get through this time and after the surgery you won't even remember how empty your stomach feels.. Sounds horrible but This definitely prepares your body for surgery. Good luck through everything!

I have been on a Protein drinks only diet for the past 9 days. My surgery is next Tuesday. I have been blessed to not feel very hungry during this process. I pray it will be the same for you as well. I have lost 13 pounds so far.

Everyones is different. I attached a pic of my pre-op diet from my book they gave me. My weight loss center uses a 7 day program, but I did it for 12 days. I wanted some wiggle room incase I fell off the wagon and needed to recover and still shrink my liver enough. I was worried that they would get in there and my liver didn't shrink enough. I did fine on the diet, I did however fall off the wagon one time. 5 days before surgery I cheated and had a double cheeseburger from McDonalds. I of course quickly regretted it and stuck to the plan the rest of the 5 days. I ended up dropping 25 pounds on that pre-op diet. My surgeon said the liver had shrunk nice and there was hardly and bleeding. Good luck to you, follow your plan and if you stumble, get back up and finish strong.

Funny thing. I was just at our once a month support group meeting the other night and the nutritionist from the weight loss center asked how I felt about the pre-op diet. I told her it was ok, I followed it because I was scared to fail. She told me that a lot of people are getting dehydrated just before surgery because they feel too restricted on the pre-op diet. The practice is actually talking about adding more foods to the pre-op diet to try to counter act that. Keep with your plan, sorry it is more restrictive. I would rather be more restricted than try to break off of the plan and find out I had to delay or start again.

I dropped 12lbs if I am not mistaken.. I was not on full liquids just reduced carb, sugar fat intake. I did Protein Shakes breakfast lunch and ate a small meal at dinner low in carb sugar and stuff, lots of Jello for snack because I could not have my grapefruit

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
