Got banded a week ago, pain on my shoulder.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I got banded a week from today. I'm experiencing sharp pains in my shoulder. The doctor told me that's from the band and should be gone in 2 months. It comes and goes. I was reading so forums that said that pain is caused when you pouch is full. But when I just drink wanted sometimes I experience the pain. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or give me advice on what to expect for the next following weeks ahead. Would appreciate any kind of help or answer. Thank you!

I would think that if it's only been a week then it's gas pains.

It's usually only one shoulder. .. and usually the left.

(I know this because that is exactly what it was when I was banded in 2005 - and it lasted up to almost 2 weeks after surgery)

They pump you with a lot of air so they can get at you easier while under the knife.

Was it your surgeon or family doc that told you this? This seems strange to me. (But of course I'm not a doctor!)

I know when things didn't agree with me (whether it being liquid or solid food) it was a tightness in the centre of my chest and I wasn't able to keep anything down. Even saliva. I could literally bend over and whatever was in there blocking would just fall out of my mouth. I'd also get these waves of feeling like I'm choking.

Hope this helps.... a little. And I hope it goes away real soon!

Yes sounds like post op gas pain. If I remember correctly mine lasted around a week or so. Walk a lot, and have someone karate chop your neck and shoulders a few times a day. Good luck.

I heard it could be gas but then I read in a forum that sometimes you could get that pain when you eat too fast. Though I haven't been eating fast so I found it weird. I also read somewhere that when ur full you sometimes get that pain. It's always the left shoulder. Hopefully it goes away soon. Thank you!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
