Hey everyone! I'm waiting on insurance approval for my sleeve. Been doing a lot of research and am very excited to get a surgery date! However, I have a small fear- I LOVE to cook and bake with my kiddos. Every holiday it's our tradition to make homemade goodies! I'm afraid that I will lose the desire to do this after surgery. I've heard many say that they lose the desire to not only eat, but the desire to cook. What are your thoughts about this? Any post-op people want to share your experience with this? Thank you!

I love to bake now and did not before surgery. I think the reason I like it now is because I know I will not eat it all!

Why not create new traditions? Something not food related. Craft projects, DIY ornaments. The options are endless.

I've lost the desire to eat...

And to cook...

I'm an ex-chef tho, so that may have some bearing on my lack of desire to cook...

And once again, I find myself agreeing with @@BLERDgirl

You'll find other things to do with the kids...

Who knows, you may end up changing their lives for the better as you're changing yours...

You don't need to eat to have fun Holiday times with your kids. It's the togetherness you love, right?

As others have said, there's plenty of fun traditions to do with your kids. How about make a special ornament each year so your children can have them when they're off on their own? Think of the memories they'll have! Far better than the fleeting taste of a cookie.

I'm pre-op (I always offer that as a disclaimer) but I have seen lots of blogs from people who enjoy cooking who post recipes adjusted for post-WLS meals. One of my favorites is Welcome to Egg Face's (Michelle Vicari) Pinterest pages.

The first probably four months after surgery I lost my desire to cook and bake. Most food looked and smelled slightly yucky to me. I especially did not like looking at large portions.

By month six I started cooking and baking like a crazy fool. Everyone was sick of me making cakes and Cookies. I over estimated on amounts and always ended up fixing a feast, even at small family dinners. By then food was beginning to smell and look normal to me again. I think subconsciously I thought "if I can't eat treats and large amounts I will cook it for everyone else". I got lots of enjoyment from watching others eat and enjoy foods

By the end of the year everything evened out. I cook normal portions now for others, I only bake for special occasions. Now that I am in maintenance I even occasionally eat my baked treats.

You know what...same here. I love baking with my 5 girls. I worried about this too. I havent had my surgery yet. Im scheduled for January. So this christmas...i have made it all about doing things together. We cut down our tree together. We decorated it together. We are quilting a new tree skirt together. We are making some wreaths, ornaments etc...all together. We have planned to make just a few christmas treats....because you just can not delete all of this from your traditions. You can make new ones though. Start new projects with your family. New traditions. It is what my husband and i have been working on this year....and so far, i havent gone hog wild with grocery shopping for all those cookie recipes and treats. My kids and family haven't even really noticed it, and i haven't over indulged on treats making myself sick over it later. I hope these new traditions keep for next christmas in my family.

Find healthy options to cook with the kids? I found a true love of cooking by doing it with my mom when I was a kid. Think of giving a child the desire to eat home cooked healthy food!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
