Post op food question.....Spicy and Sour

Recommended Posts

So as I was eating a lemon today at work I realized that I need to find out if two of my favorite things are allowed post op!

I am looking at being sleeved in January 2016.

So I eat lemons, just plain no sugar or salt or anything on them just the lemon. I am also addicted to hot sauce. Specifically Franks Red Hot. Its my preferred condiment and I would like to continue to use it in the future. I am thinking a few drops on boneless skinless chicken breast.

So please tell me that no one has has these things restricted post op........

It really depends on your body. Some people find they can tolerate it post op, some can't. I would say once you're cleared for all foods give it a try and see how it sits. I don't suck lemons, but I do suck on limes, and I loooove Franks hot sauce, I put that stuff on everything and I'm fine. The only thing I experience is that I have to have a little bit of something in my tummy before I enjoy a lime or the acid feels a little weird

Talk to your NUT. Citrus and spicy foods were on my do not eat list. I waited until maybe week 4 and tentatively began adding them back in. I LOVE spicy food Franks, Sriracha, Harrisa, you name it. The concern is it may aggravate reflux/acid. I had a tiny bit of an issue with acid around months 3 - 6 so I stayed away from the spicy stuff during that time but now I use both liberally.

I see my nutritionist later this month but it's good to know I should be able to *keep* two of my favorites!

I didn't have any restrictions on spicy or acidic foods once I was a few months out. But my sense of taste has become more intense, so spicy things taste spicier now (and sweet things sweeter, etc), so I don't eat as many spicy (or sweet...or salty...) things as I did before.

If hot sauce tasted hotter and lemons not sour I would totally be ok with that! Lol
