January Surgery Dates!

Recommended Posts

Who's getting their surgery in January? I just got my insurance approval today, and I meet with my surgeon Wednesday the 16th of Dec. The scheduler said that I will most likely get my surgery on the 5th of january because he only has one scheduled on the 5th, and he is out of the office until my appointment! I am beyond excited!

Hi, just waiting for confirmation but when I saw my surgeon a week ago he said he thought it would be 8th January for my RNY!

After so many months of research and tests I can't believe I am nearly there! :)

The only thing I am really worried about is nutrition support (I am self pay in UK) and have seen a private NUT that my surgeon recommended (he is really lovely and has a brilliant reputation which is why I am going to him) but although great when I met her, she is rubbish at replying to emails and impossible to get on the phone which is suppose to be part of the NUT support package I paid for ...

How long and what are your Pre-op diets?

My surgeon has said he wants me to do the diet for at least a week (I am planning to do it for 2) but NOT milk based and the last 48 hours Clear liquids only. Just curious what other people have been told?

@@Bagpuss I had my preop appt on December 3rd and was told that I should start my preop diet as soon as possible. I had to wait until payday so I started mine on December 14th and my surgery is the 5th of January. My preop diet itself is just small healthy meals with lean meat like tuna, chicken breast, and turkey breast. Then I can have 3 Snacks a day as well as long as their healthy and sugar free. And he also said I could have a cheat day on Christmas and then go back on the diet the day after.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
