Help! I need recommendations

Recommended Posts

I need recommendations for Protein options. I am in the pre op liquid diet and cannot tolerate the Protein shakes. I am really sensitive to artificial sweeteners and cannot swallow another shake. I am concerned because I will need Protein supplements for the rest of my life but I am starting to feel very discouraged that there are no protein options out there that I can swallow.

I have heard about powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury but when I read those reviews people also say that they are disgusting. Anyone have protein options that they like?

I love the unjury brand shakes- my favorite is chocolate Splendor. Remember, everyone's taste are different. Syntrex nectar powders are another one of my favorites- Choc Truffle. I am a chocolate lover!

Premier Protein is really yummy, and it doesn't have any sugar alcohols and only 1 gram of sugar. I like the chocolate best.

I couldn't stomach the powdered drinks for some reason. I do like the powdered chicken Soup from unjury for satisfying the savory craving.

In ready made shakes, I liked Muscle Milk as a pre op, but don't like it now. Premier chocolate ready made is my staple as a post op.

After surgery, you will need to take Protein supplements. Generally this takes the form of Protein shakes or powders. After a few months you will be able to transition to some Protein Bars. But the statement that you made I will need protein supplements for the rest of my life is not accurate. In the beginning, you have to take protein supplements because the amount of protein you receive from you meals will be incredibly small because the volume of your meals will be incredibly small.

As your meal volume increases post-op, if you concentrate on eating high protein meals, you can begin to eliminate your reliance on protein supplements. Your daily protein requirement is met by a combination of the protein you obtain from meals combined with the protein from supplements.

Your taste buds may change after surgery. Therefore if you find a protein supplement now, it may not met your requirements post-op. After surgery it will be important that you find a Protein shake that you can tolerate. You don't have to like it, only be able to tolerate it. For me I used "Muscle Milk Light" and blended in a half a banana and Water using a Ninja blender with a single serving size. I could tolerate that. Over time I went from 3 Protein Shakes a day, down to 2, down to 1 and then finally ZERO. I haven't drunk a Protein Shake in a year and a half. If I need a little extra protein when I am away from home, I generally use a [Quest] Protein Bar.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
