babeeberry 3 Posted December 8, 2015 Hi everyone! I just started the process of having the sleeve done and have attended the first information seminar. I've been researching this for almost a year but kept making excuses when it came to committing to it. Now I'm completely onboard and so excited! My question is that I am very allergic to NutraSweet and highly sensitive to other artificial sweeteners. I suffer from Migraines and if I accidentally eat something with it I get very sick with a Migraine and vomiting. I wonder how I will be able to do the pre op diet since most drinks on the list are "Diet." The Protein Shakes after surgery are also full of these sweeteners. Is there anyone else who has these issues? I hope this won't stop me from being able to have this surgery.
HopeandAgony 566 Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) You can always drink plain Water. You don't have to use sweetener. As far as the Protein shakes, there are a lot of variety out there. Try different things. There are some unflavored ones that you can add to broth. I used Protein Shakes after surgery briefly. I had severe diarrhea from them them and had to stop them. I am able to get my Protein goals daily without them. I am 3 weeks post op. Edited December 8, 2015 by HopeandAgony
Inner Surfer Girl 12,015 Posted December 8, 2015 This is a great conversation to have with your NUT. He or she may have some guidance as to good Protein supplements for you. You will definitely need to read labels carefully.
babeeberry 3 Posted December 8, 2015 Thank you for your replies. I drink a lot of Water and unsweetened ice tea. I didn't know there was an unflavored Protein Shake so I am going to look into that. I can't wait to get my appointments going and begin this journey : )
