TraumaNurse 1 Posted November 12, 2004 Hi there!! My name is Christina, I'm 26 and happily married for just over a year now. After lurking for months and countless hours of research along with a job change to obtain insurance known to cover lapbanding I have made an initial appointment with a surgeon!!! :banana :banana :banana December 9th, I will finally see if I am eligible for this surgery. I am so excited yet very nervous!! I'm not quite sure of what I need to bring as far as documentation and such. Christina :Bunny

TraumaNurse 1 Posted November 13, 2004 Thank you everyone for your warm welcome!! I wish my family were as open and understanding of this procedure as you all are. I also found out yesterday my insurance will require a referral letter from my PCP. That's gonna be the hardest part of all this. Thanks again.. ~Christina:Bunny

TraumaNurse 1 Posted November 14, 2004 CHristina: Welcome from one nurse to another. Good luck. Keep us posted on how things progress. Where are you located? YEAH another nurse!!!! I am so nervous about the time it will take me to really be 100% at work. I just made a job change to a smaller community hospital, so hopefully it will be a little easier.. I am located in western Massachusetts. ~Christina:Bunny
hagerteresa 3 Posted November 14, 2004 Hi Christina, I am a housekeeper and assistant inn-keeper. My job is pretty active and requires lots of bending, lifting, etc. I took one week off and was fine going back to work the following week. I had to take it a little slower and easier but otherwise it wasn't too terrible. I had flown to Mexico for my surgery, was in the hospital two nights, flew home and went shopping at costco the following day. I found I was definitely sore but not unbearably the first few days. Good luck on your first appt. Teresa
Vickums 0 Posted November 15, 2004 Christina, congratulations! Best of luck with your appointment. Any idea how long until you can get a surgery date? I'm still sorting things out with my insurance company. I have to have my surgery done at a facility that's part of our larger health care facility network (HCA -- I'm a peds nurse), and since I live in Alaska, my options are limited. So between that and the six month medically supervised farce - I mean diet - they want me to do, it's going to be awhile for me, I'm afraid. Are you an ER nurse? That sounds pretty exciting. I bet every day is different. You're a better woman than I. Again, congratulations and best of luck with moving toward your surgery!

Vickums, I have no idea how long it will be before I am given a surgical date.. I have heard that this surgeons office it's usually 4-6weeks after initial consultation. I already have my sleep study done(it was done by my primary for other reasons) I don't think my surgeon requires a supervised diet, hopefully not(I'm so inpatient at times) Yes, I am an ER nurse, some days are good and others make me wonder why I don't work at Home Depot or something. I do love my job though.. I thought the same of you for working Peds, whenever I have to start lines on those little ones it makes me want to cry.... Hugs, ~Christina:Bunny
