2 weeks no weight loss

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Today is my day 15 post op. I have not lost any weight. I drink one iso pure and one Protein shake per day (70 g Protein total, 260 calories total) but I have yet to see any weight loss.

Is this normal? I saw on this forum many folks losing at least 20 lbs after their first month. .. it looks like I am not going to be anywhere near that.

Please help.

Thank you.

Many people don't show an initial loss on the scale because of IV fluids and swelling post-op. Have you talked to your NUT? Did your surgeon or NUT express any concern when you had your post-op follow-up? If not, I you are probably doing fine.

Almost everyone hits a stall about three weeks post op.

Just follow your program. Focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids, take your Vitamins and supplements as directed, and exercise.

Even though you are getting 70 grams of Protein, your calories are very low. You should do better once you are able to get in more calories.

Embrace the Stall!

Perfectly normal. Many people do lose a lot in those first 2 weeks, but just as many don't lose at all and some even gain. Don't compare yourself to others. Just focus on following your NUT's instructions. Hit those protein and Fluid goals and you'll be fine.

I gained weight from the swelling and fluids after surgery. It took a week or so before I started losing.

You will start losing soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
