Drinking Post Surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Just wondering your experiences on drinking.

I started out with being able to drink very little, and as a result sipped constantly.

However I am 3 weeks post surgery and I feel as though my drinking ability has increased.

I now can drink more or less normally. I have not attempted to drink or (down) a beverage. But I have noticed that I

am able to drink more.

Wondering if anyone else has had the same experiences.

I am hoping that this doesn't equate to stretching my new stomach.

Trev

When you say you are drinking, what are you drinking? Water, Protein shakes, Soups etc or are you speaking about booze. You need Water so you don't become dehydrated. Protein Shakes and Soup you need to drink for the Protein as your not able to eat food yet. Not sure how you equate drinking water, shakes and Soup with stretching your new stomach. Now if it is booze that is something I have no idea about.

From what i remember from my nutritionist class, immediately after surgery, there's a lot of swelling, which is the reason you can't hold much. As that swelling subsides, we can drink more.

It's normal. The real restriction comes when eating.

I never had a problem drinking from the get go. Never really had to sip and I can pretty much gulp too. But eating - definitely feel the restriction.

Yes normal. I had the same issue and asked the same question. :D Once the swelling is down it does get much easier. My NUT said not to worry but still follow the 30/30 rule and don't push it. Still don't gulp. But I think at 3 weeks I could easily get 16 to 20 ounces in an hour (not every hour all day just that I could get in much more than I could the weeks before).
