I know I have read that some people have difficulty with emotions post op, likely due to hormones that are stored in the fat we are getting rid of. I thought it was fairly early on? I am 11 weeks out today and I feel so emotional! I am not even premenstrual! I just feel like I could cry at any moment. It has been like this for about a week and I have no other real reason for it. Anyone experiencing anything like this post op and when? When did it pass?

I do have a history of anxiety and depression, I am medicated and have felt well under control.

I don't think there is a definite timeline on the emotional/hormonal thing.

IMHO, I think it varies depending on our age/amount of weight lost.

My emotions and moods were up the creek after the surgery but it does pass. I came off HRT and anti-depressants 6 weeks before the surgery and had to stay off for 6 weeks after so I put it down to that but it's very common from reading the boards here and elsewhere.

Really hope you feel better soon. Be kind to yourself. :)

I am going to through the same thing. I started noticing that some days I was the usual me but others I was being very moody to point that would either get very upset very fast or just start crying for no apparent reason. I am glad to know that I'm not the only one having this issue, I thought I was going crazy.

Hang in there! I also have a history of anxiety and I was on an emotional rollercoaster for the first 3-4 weeks post op. I was like you and felt like I could cry at any minute. I had several bouts of crying sessions over the most random things so I finally went to see a counselor. I have no doubt that I'd still be an emotional basket case if I hadn't gone to see someone. Feel free to message me if you have any questions or if there is anything you need to talk about! It does get better, it just takes time. Keep your head up!

Especially if you were an emotional eater in the past, losing that coping mechanism can definitely bring up a lot of unexpected emotions. It's something I struggle with even to this day, 2 years later. Not in the crying at any minute kind of way, but I have to be mindful of how I cope in especially stressful or emotional moments.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
