So my insurance has had my auth info since the Tuesday before thanksgiving. Obviously they were closed thanksgiving day and the day after. so all last week I called for an update bc I was scheduled to start my liquid diet this past Thursday. Every day I was told to call back the next day and the next, by Friday I snapped. I started the liquid diet anyway so I won't have to push my date back just in case it takes awhile for approval. My out of pocket max is met for the year so as long as I get it done before Jan 1 I am covered 100% and I don't want to cut any closer than December 17th. If I call tomorrow and there still isn't an answer it is going to be hell for them. I am grumpy as it is because I miss solid food and I have no idea if I am doing this for no reason or not. Sorry I needed to vent

Also, did any of you get light headed and have headaches the first couple of days of your liquid diet. My head has been pounding, and coincidently I just had neck surgery to fix and issue that was causing headaches so I just want to make sure it's the diet and not and Issue with the other surgery!

Sorry it's been difficult dealing with the surgeon's office. This is quite common, based on what I see on this forum, and is unfortunate because it's so unnecessarily difficult. I'm one of the lucky ones who had a superb surgical team. As for the liquid diet, I got very light-headed the first few days but no headache per se. I'm curious to see what others experienced. Good luck on this journey!

@@kdelrosso - cutting out caffeine? it will cause headaches. Are you eating enough calories/protein? Stay hydrated too.

My packet was sent to my insurance on the Thursday before Thanksgiving in 2013, and I was counting on getting approval for Christmas week since I would have help here at home for over a week. I called on the next Monday, and the surgeon's office said that their insurance coordinator would be on vacation until the first of the year and they would not having any approval released before she got back. Say Whaaaat?

I called my insurance company and talked to the nurse who had been my case manager for a previous issue. She said that my surgery was already approved (in two days - who does that?).

So, she emailed me a copy of the approval letter which also stated that I was approved for up to five days at the hospital. I faxed it to the surgeon's OR nurse, and she set my date right then and there. I got sleeved on December 23rd, 2013.

As for the headache question, I did have one for about three days, then it went away.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
