I ended up in the ER the night of the surgery and admitted for two days. I couldn't get pain relief from the oxy+acet. I needed stronger narcotics. IV fluids, nausea, and pain meds helped. Home yesterday and slept away much of the day which became up all night which is working itself out today. The pain meds now are fine. Urine is a good color, so my hydration is okay. Got some Liquid Protein in me, but not enough. Walked a bit around the home depot and was naptastic after. Tomorrow promises to be better still. You?

Why we're you in the ER? Was it done outpatient?

Yes. Outpatient. How it is most often done at this practice. Most folks do fine, I couldn't get ahead of the pain, and I vomit with extreme pain, so you can see how that would spiral out of control quickly. Was a bit shocky, too. Not my finest hour....

Emilie sorry to

Hear you had some troubles! For the most part I'm ok. I'm playing it safe with the amount of physical activity still but other than that I'm good. I'm walking, drank about 50 ounces of Water today and some protein. No complaints.

Well, I overdid it yesterday; paying for it today. I find sitting up on my own is easier, but I am dizzy and the nausea is back. I didn't have to take a nausea pill yesterday. Swallowing is easier. So... I am going to wander over to the couch today and repent.

Are you able to keep any fluids down?

Yes, fluids are not a problem. I can feel them slide all the way down and sometime gush through the pylorus. I can, if I think on it and take the pacing just so, I can drink 2 cups of broth over about a 30 min period. Has to be Clear Liquids, but it runs right on down. Today, just one narcotic pill and that was after my walking around.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
