If you have been sleeved, I need your thoughts

Recommended Posts

I had the band and lost 55 pounds (210 to 155) , it slipped and had to be removed. I have gained 20 pounds back. My weight now is 177 and I am 5'4, I have been approved for the sleeve because the band failed.... I am so worried that I am going to lose to much weight with the sleeve. Say I lose just 50 pounds with the sleeve I'll be 127, that's to skinny for me.... But if I don't get it I will continue to gain....

I dont know what to do .......

Hopefully some of the revision sleevers will chime in, however I think the key will be working with your nutritionist to make sure you switch to maintenance once you hit your goal weight. Thankfully their isn't as much of a malabsorption issue with the sleeve as there is with bypass so you could prevent getting too skinny with a proper diet.

honestly, if you only want to loose 50 lbs, maybe the sleeve is not the thing for you

To be brutally honest, I feel that it is far too invasive for 50 lbs. To each his own, but dang. This surgery is designed for those who have a substantial amount to lose and in my humble opinion, 50lbs is not substantial.

I would talk with your doctor. I am a band to sleeve patient and I am extremely happy I did the conversion, but I had a lot more weight to lose. I am below goal and maintaining. Good luck with your decision.

I only had/have 30kg to lose (which is about 66 pounds) and my doctor was all for it. My previous attempts weren't working (and I'd tried EVERYTHING and been really good on them all too). While it's still 16 pounds more than you, it's still considered a "small" amount to lose for sleeving. While everyone's journey is going to be different, my weight loss has been comparatively slow which makes me *think* (obviously I'm not a doctor, so don't quote me) that maybe with a smaller amount to lose it goes slower??? I honestly don't know. My mum had about 50kg (110 pounds) to lose and she did it a lot quicker than I think I will - I've only lost 9 kilos in 4 weeks (which I'm still pretty happy with, but my mum had lost double that at the same time).

At the end of the day, you need to listen to your body, your doctors and express your concerns to the professionals. Good luck - I'm sorry we can't give you a clear-cut answer, but here's our two cents' worth :)

I'm surprised your doctor gave an okay for the sleeve. You normally have to meet certain requirements. However, if you do get the sleeve you will lose weight slower than other people who are far heavier.

I was approved because my band slipped

You are in the driver's seat. The sleeve is just a tool. It alone won't make you lose or gain back any certain amount. It will help you get to your goal if you use it in the right way. Once you get to your goal, then it just becomes a game of maintenance. If you are really concerned about losing too much, I would consider meeting with a nutritionist once you get close to your personal goal so you can figure out the calories and nutrients you would need to maintain your weight as opposed to losing more.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
