New sleevers how are you doing

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 12/15, so tomorrow I will be a week out. Starting Saturday is when I really started to feel good. I just have insane gas, and can't get all my Water or Protein down. Oh, and I'm hungry for real food, but I'm hoping it's just head hunger that will go away.

I was just sleeved 12/15 but I'm doing ok. I've found a few that having a little blender bullet is the best thing I have ever gotten in my life. That has let me eat almost any Soup by just blending it all up. So much better than broth. Still working on getting in more Water and dealing with some nasty heartburn.

I haven't been miserable yet though.

My friend taught me to buy Ramen noodles, cook the broth and toss the noodles. It has more flavor than broth! She said that's what she did after her gastric bypass because the broth didn't have enough flavor for her.

I was sleeved on 12/16, so am 6 days post op. I am doing well overall. I am on all liquids for another week ( Water, milk, cream Soups, broth, jello) and the Protein I am using is called Celebrate 4 in 1 packets. I mix one packet with 8oz milk twice a day and that allows me to get 66gm Protein in daily. I blend it with ice for a little extra Fluid too. The chocolate milk flavor is pretty darn good.

Glad we are all in this together, and to those having a hard time getting their fluids and protein in, good luck and hang in there. You are healing from the inside and your body is in a huge adjustment phase!

I just want some flavor other than chocolate, strawberry or vanilla! I live near Louisiana so our food is good...lots of flavor...tex-mex is also a fave. If I could just spice things up a bit...but it took a while for me to get this way and it will take a while to fix me as well. PATIENCE GRASSHOPPER!!

I was sleeved 12 14. Havent had one day of getting over 30 ounces in. Im on full liquids for 4 weeks. Am able to eat 3 ounces of Jello or pudding at a time, for my meals. Im hungry too. They may call it head hunger and it may be true, but most of the time my tummy feels hungry from the bottom of the pits of hell.

Hey Chefchazz, don't fret - every time I start a a new workout program I end up gaining a pound or two before I start losing. Just keep doing what you are doing and things will fall exactly into place. I have not really started working out, just walking. I have been doing some light jogging with the newest dog we got and I seem to be losing .5 to 1 pound a week, although I will be the first to admit I am not doing a great job of getting in my Protein and Fluid. After Christmas I am going to have to get me some unflavored Protein powder to mix into things - need some serious help in the Protein department.

I am 3 weeks out and now allowed to eat soft and puréed foods. So far I have not had one problem getting anything down. chicken was a breeze. In fact I always feel I can eat more but always limit food intake to 1 to 2 oz per meal. I am wondering if the surgery even happened ( did they just go in and take a look? Lol) Plus I am always hungry ( which sucks) and I haven't lost any cravings.

I take a pill every day to control acid, I eat slow, i take m&m size bits or sips of food, my Protein shake is premiere (I think I tastes like desert). Is not having stomach issues normal or am I lucky?

I vote for lucky. I've had no problems either and felt great from the beginning. Keep restricting intake as long as you can. I regret not having stuck with fewer ounces of food when I found out I could eat more.

I'm with you guys! I feel pretty great so far :)

I'm post-op day 5. I've done well since surgery. I stopped taking the hydrocodone yesterday; I only took a few doses, anyway. Any remaining pain is gas pain.

I'm focusing on Protein, Water, and walking. Honestly, I'm not measuring yet because I don't want to discourage myself. I know I'm not dehydrated, and I'm able to take larger sips each day.

I have a few tips that seem to be helping me:

1. Walk around the house when you drink your Protein. This helps everything go down, especially my small thyroid pill, which I resumed on day 2.

2. Use decaffeinated, herbal teas to help get your Water in. There are so many flavors that taste wonderful without any sugar or milk. I personally do not like to drink regular iced tea, but I love herbal teas. Especially ones with mint, which are soothing to my teeny, tiny stomach.

3. Try not to stress over hunger. I had pretty bad head hunger (craving specific foods) the first few days, but that's already starting to decrease. I still want to eat things I used to eat, of course, but the intensity is lessening a little each day.

4. Remember to rest often. You are still recovering from surgery. The more you rest now, the shorter your overall recovery will be.

Congratulations, fellow new sleevers! We're really doing this!

Ok now I'm freaked out.. Will be sleeved in jan

Oh no - don't freak out!! I feel better every day. But I do find it comforting to hear others struggling with the same things as me and knowing I'm not alone! So many have had great tips I have used.

Trust me, I don't regret this at all.

I'm 3 weeks out as of yesterday, I feel awesome! I seem to be one of those people who didn't lose the hunger. That's totally fine with me, I have a couple tablespoons of chicken salad and I'm full. It's amazing.

I do, however, have a ton of pain at my large incision. At 2 weeks out I felt awesome and had very little pain. Now I can barely bend over. I called my surgeon and he said it seems like I started getting more active after I felt better and started doing more than I should. I guess it's more time on the couch with some movies until I'm feeling better again.

I'm down 17 lbs since surgery, 21 since my pre-op diet, and 31 overall. My weigh loss stalled for 12 days!! I was hoping to lose a bit more than I have but I have to put in to perspective that 17 lbs is more than I lost on my entire 6 month diet. Trying to be a bit more patient.

Hi, there.

I've been lurking around here since my first visit with the surgeon on Aug. 31st. I was sleeved on 12/4 so tomorrow will be three weeks out for me. I'm doing okay--just struggling with finding that very thin line between not hungry and stuffed and in pain. Strange how much difference a single bite can make. I actually like Protein shakes so I'm getting all of my Protein in. Now that it's not so uncomfortable to drink, I'm getting my Water in.

Thank you all for sharing your struggles and triumphs. I'm learning a lot.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
