Spicy foods and hot sauce

Recommended Posts

Some people say they have no problem with jalapeños and garlic - I have ate a jalapeño everyday all my life - will that change or if you could you can - I know it will be months but do you keep your same taste buds

I still eat spicy foods. The only real problem is not being able to drink anything with a meal, I have found that I tend to avoid foods that are so hot that you need something cold to drink with it...

I could eat anything spicy, I actually started eating spicy at 2 months post op. My nut approved said if it didn't bother me I was able to eat it.

I think the thing to remember is that everyone's reactions to foods is different.

I have friends that mention their taste buds have completely changed since surgery. I have not experienced that at all. I do not crave sweets like I used to, but my taste for foods is the same.

One of my best male friends had the surgery almost 4 years ago and was eating his hot foods once he was able to handle solid foods and had no trouble.

I had IBS before surgery and couldn't handle much heat to my foods. I plan to try a little bit of heat soon and see how it goes.

I could tolerate mild salsas at six weeks, but at two years jalapenos and hot peppers are still a no-go. Even if I could follow them with something to quench the fire, my little tummy can't hold enough to make a difference.

I eat spicy food and did from 6 weeks on. My tastes have not changed, but since I eat so little I am really picky about quality.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
