Just checking in, its been a while. I am happy to report that my weight loss is slowing, only because I am running out of weight to lose. I am down 106lbs. in four months, I only have another twenty to go. I run every other night now four miles and let me tell you that in Phoenix its slightly warm right now, I think that I could go further if it wasn't that hot, 110 is average temp. I feel great, weigh 244 wear a size 38 waist considering that in March I was 350 and wore a 52. I still had only one fill at 3cc and do not think that I need more. No complications to date.

Holy cow, Pete, seriously--that's a LOT of weight to lose so fast. You'd better hope that slows down! I'm sure you're in close touch with your doctors and I'll bet they're as amazed as we are. Congratulations!!

(I hope no one else gets the idea that this is anything but an extraordinary rate of loss. It's NOT normal, and not something anyone should expect from banding surgery.)

Yes its real, and its not from starvation. I just make healthy food choices, follow the rules, and exercise every day or every other. I run constantly. No alcohol, nothing but Water. My Dr. was floored by my success and has asked me to be in her advertisements for the band. In fact they are trying to set that up after I reach my goal. I feel great, have abs and my legs are ripped up, I am happy with my decision.

By the way, I know that its an extremely almost bypass or more type of weight loss. However when I went into this I at times thought that "what if I am the one that fails" and when I got home from the surgery I decided that I would not allow that. You can do it if you put your mind to it. Its not normal, but who cares, I did it, and so can others.

Gosh, that's wonderful!!! You must be very proud of yourself!

Congratulations!!!

Can you give us an idea of what is your daily routine? I mean, your food choices, other exercises apart from running, ...? It's very encouraging listening to success stories like yours. I have my band for 2,5 years and still struggling each and everyday against weight becausing my loss is so annoyingly slow. I'm wondering what am I doing wrong, or if there's something else I should be doing besides the correct food choices or going to the gym 4 or 5 times per week.

First off I drink only Water. Nothing else. I eat good Proteins, eggs, chicken, steak. I do not snack, and never eat high carb foods like pizza, Pasta etc. I figure that each meal is so small and important that I choose not to fill it with crap. We all know that there are ways to eat around the band, just don't do it. I am addicted to feeling and looking great, not the food anymore. I actually crave salads and veggies now. By the way the salads at McDonalds are extremely good and healthy.

I am not on here trying to boast my success, rather than to let others know that its possible. I never expected this much at this time, but if you put your mind to it and really commit to it, you can do it.

AZPete....I just wanted to say Thanks!! I go into surgery in 11 hours from now...and just thought I'd jump on the forum one last time...and man..am I ever glad I did!! As I sit here...I am not nervous..but comfortable and ready for the next stage of my life. My motivation is a little different than yours. Beyond the health and extended quality of life...in the back of my mind...I want to be the lap band patient that is an inspiration to others. At the hospital where I am having my procedure...it's 99.99% RNY...only a handful with the Lap Band. I want to be an example...a mentor if you will...that this will work...and it's a viable option for those who are willing to make a few changes and reap the benefits of an extended lifetime.

Thank you again...your story just reinforces the fact that I am making the right choice for me.

Continued success and good health.

Bud

Pete,

I am floored by your success. Your stats sound very similiar to mine but you are losing somewhat quicker.

Dont worry about boasting, you deserve a pat on the back.

How is the loose skin situation. I have been a rather fats loser my self and it is pretty loose.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
