Should I wait to color my hair? (p.s. onederland is amazing!)

Recommended Posts

So I finally hit onederland a few days ago, and I really can't believe the scale sometimes. I started pre-op July 1 and am down 71.4 lbs since then! I'm really starting to feel better about myself. I got to go shopping for some new clothes, and it was actually enjoyable! I'm adjusting to my new life well, all accept loosing my hair. I've been wanting to cut and color my hair for a while now, but I am loosing it quickly. Would it be a bad idea to color it while I'm already loosing it? I have very fine hair as it is, but I feel like a new person and I want a new look to reflect that. Should I wait until my hair stops falling out at such a drastic rate, or is it gonna fall out no matter what I do? If it matters I want to go lighter with my hair. I've never been blonde before, so I wanna give it a try.

I would suggest you ask your hairdresser how coloring would effect your Hair loss. Definitely don't let her bleach it at this point.

If you plan to go lighter, unless you're going to rock a pixie, I would wait. Bleaching makes hair even more fragile and if you are shedding it's already in a pretty fragile shape.

I've been losing a lot of hair for the last 4 months but I've been coloring it every 6 weeks. I haven't noticed any extra Hair loss after coloring it. I don't bleach it, though, so I'm not sure how that would effect it.

Do you always lose your hair afterWLS?

No, not always but it's not uncommon. You body siphons off all available Protein to live so hair & nails can suffer as a result. Once you go into maintenance most people return back to normal.

I was wondering the same thing. I haven't started shedding yet and was considering coloring my hair before it starts to sheds!

I have not colored my hair yet. I have very fine straight hair and I'm just to worried about loosing any more then I already have. I did ask a hair dresser and she recommended not putting color directly on the scalp. So I'll wait a few more months and color it then.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
