Hospital stay question

Recommended Posts

My doctor has me slotted to stay 2 nights in the hospital, surgery on Tuesday and leave on Thursday. Is this normal? I see where a lot of folks seem to get out the next day.

My surgery is Dec 17 and I will be in Tijuana 4 nights. Nights 2 and 3 are in the hospital. 1 and 4 at hotel. Is that what you are doing? Maybe the 1 nighters are in the US?

The surgeon/hospital program I am using in Maryland estimates 2.25 days in the hospital.

My insurance approved five days, but I was in on Monday morning and out on Wednesday evening.

I had my surgery this past Tuesday morning and was released yesterday. Honestly, I would have loved another day in the hospital. My large incision is pretty painful and I have trouble getting myself up off my couch or bed, I miss the hospital bed that would sit me up!

I do understand why people want to get home ASAP, I'm happy to be home, I just miss being taken care of lol.

My doc said I could go home the next day. I was doing really well except I was very groggy due to morphine. Since I live 5 hours away and we had to drive home, I decided to stay another night.

I had surgery on a Wednesday and was released around noon the next day. They woke me up at 5 am Thursday to walk, start drinking my Water, and get my discharge instructions. I was so completely tired and out of it that I would have loved another day in the hospital. I did okay being at home but it would have been nice if they let me relax a bit instead of rushing me out. I think they did this because my insurance covered 90% of an "outpatient" procedure (which is less than 24 hour stay) and only 70% of an "inpatient" procedure which is more than a 24 hour stay. So, in hindsight I'm glad I didn't have to pay extra.

Thanks for all of the replies. My surgery is being done in North Carolina and I guess that I will just enjoy the stay. I'll pretend like I'm away on vacation!

My surgery was on a Tuesday and I went home on Thursday. I was thankful to be in the hospital during that time. By Thursday morning I was ready to go. I was discharged around 1pm.

Believe me when I tell you, a hospital stay is nothing like a vacation. Noisy!

If you arrive for surgery on day 1, you will be discharged about the same time on day 3, barring any complications. Day 2 is generally pretty uncomfortable, but by the beginning of day 3 you should be feeling great. Don't know about Mexico.

My surgery was Monday around 1100 and I was discharged Tuesday at 1845. I was asked by my physician what would make me comfortable--I was definitely ready to be in the comfort of my own home. I am also a RN, so I have no desire to be admitted in the hospital longer than necessary. Ultimately, your MD should do what's best for you.

Standard is one unless you have complications of you can't handle the fluids. I couldn't handle the required amount of 4oz an hour, so they bargained w: me to stay another night. Trust me you might need it, even if it's just to sleep & recover!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
