Well I am 13 days till my surgery date and I am so nervous that something is going to go wrong. I am 19 years old and have never so worried about something in my life. I'm afraid that my liver will not have shrank enough for the surgery and I will wake up thinking i had the surgery and find out I hadn't and end up crying for days. Any inspirational help?

You will most likely be perfectly fine. Stick to your pre-op diet and things will be the best for your surgery - you still have 13 days, so that's plenty of time to shrink the liver in most cases.

Deep breaths and try to distract yourself by researching new recipes and foods for after surgery and go in with a positive attitude! Every time that negative stuff starts up, shout it down with thoughts about how you will be in great shape and come through everything with no problems, and you will ROCK this sleeve - you will be awesome!

Mine is the 14th and I have the same fear - that they won't be able to complete it for some reason. But, we've got this!!!!!!

Unless you were ginormous you should be fine. I started at an extremely high BMI and didn't even have a pre-op diet. I just ate sensibly the 2 weeks prior to surgery. My surgery went off without a hitch.

I wouldn't worry so much, there are some Drs who do these surgeries on people that are 600+ pounds with no problems. I personally was 319 at surgery and had no preop diet except for one day of liquids the day before and I was just fine. Best of luck to you.

Your young. So am I. I'm only 21 I just had my sleeve on Wednesday and they said it went extremely well probably due to my age. You will be fine! I do recommend asking for Percocet. They gave Mr diladum but that was not taking care of the pain at all!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
