Congrats to you Heather! I'm sorry I can't be of help to you as I'm don't get my band until next Friday. I have heard from other bandsters it is a little tough but I know you can make it. Some of these long time bandsters have great ideas! Keep posting and looking around. :car:

Hi Heather, congratulations on your banding! The best advice I have is to TAKE IT SLOW. Listen to your body and when you have had enough just stop eating. Start with the soft solids, and don't be surprised when you have no reaction. :car: Take each bite with care, and pay attention so you'll know when you're no longer hungry.

Hi Heather -

I was just like you at the beginning I went 5 days on pure liquids and was all I could do. I was HUNGRY! I started eating tuna fish with Ritz crackers and that was the best meal ever. I was so scared to eat at first but it go to the point that I didn't care.

During the process they put the fear of GOD in you if you eat outside of the guidelines but I found out it's not the case. Just take your time and chew the food very good and you will be fine.

I have made it 13 days and I talk to the nutrition person on Tuesday to forward with the plan. I think I can make it...sugar-free popsicles are my life saver! Thanks for the help.

Great Protein Shake:

10 ice cubes

1 Tbsp of Skippy All Natural Peanut Butter

1 small squirt of hershey's chocolate

1 or 2 scoops of your protein mix (I use american whey vanilla or chocolate)=20 to 40 mgs of protein

8oz of light soy milk or you can do 1/2 soy (4oz) w/ 4oz of water

mix in blender for 1 minute

BEST shake YOU WILL EVER HAVE if you like Peanut Butter cups thick like a milkshake but better for you. I hope this helps...Good luck and congrats on you band. Keep reading on and you will find other helpful tips.

I think at first we are all scared to try the mushies, but it is pure heaven to have something to eat again. Just take small bites and chew well and you'll be fine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
