ReneK 107 Posted December 2, 2015 As I sit here patiently (NOT!) waiting for my insurance approval, i'm trying to prepare for the two week liquid diet. I have the Protein drinks that I need. And I stocked up on store bought broth. The other day, i was making stuffing for my son and tasted the swanson's chicken broth. I could swear I've drank it before but I thought it tasted horrible! So, I've made the decision to make my own. ATM, i have leftover turkey and bones on the stove simmering with veggies and spices. It smells amazing. And it tastes SO MUCH BETTER than store bought. I'm going to let it sit in the cold garage and skim off all of the fat after it cools and then store it in serving size containers in the freezer. Does that sound nuts? Are there any pitfalls that I'm not thinking of? Does anyone else have recipes for broth (any kind but seafood?)
newmebithebypass 713 Posted December 2, 2015 good luck on the liquid diet i think i might have lucked out and gotten a surgeon that does not require a liquid diet
tappingmom 85 Posted December 2, 2015 Homemade broth sounds great to me! I'm on day 1 of the liquid pre-op diet and I had Pacific Free Range chicken Broth this afternoon. It was meh. I did, however, have the Unjury Chicken Soup for lunch and that was pretty good!

MonikaMakal 18 Posted December 3, 2015 Preparing the homemade broth is excellent idea. In Poland, where I live, we usually do like this. You can even hardy find a ready made broth in a store, except broth cubes full of artificial ingredients. I usually make like 5 liter of my own broth from the whole chicken and piece of beef. Then cool it and skim (take out the fat). Then in the 0,5 liter plastic boxes I just just freeze them. Every time I need the broth I have it on hand.
ReneK 107 Posted December 3, 2015 The turkey broth turned out excellent. I'm getting some beef bones to make the next batch! Now if I can just get my insurance approval!
