First pureed/soft meal attempt

Recommended Posts

I was so looking forward to today's meal. I prepared 4 oz scrambled eggs. I managed to gag down 2 ounces. Small pain as the food was going down. Now I feel bloated and disgusting. Feel like I'm going to throw up and I'm belching and mucus is coming up. All in all not quite what I fantasized. Maybe the scrambled eggs were too dry. Anyway the dog enjoyed his delicious egg Breakfast. Any tips on what/how you ate when you started soft foods.

The first time I tried to eat a scrambled egg, it took me about 45 minutes to finish maybe 2/3 of it and I was lying on the floor in agony afterward. All I can say is that it does get better and easier. You have to keep trying. I wish I had better advise, but the only thing I can tell you is that patience is the only thing that will get you through the next few weeks. Eat VERY slowly. Chew until there is nothing left in your mouth at all. Try different foods and different amounts. Try melting a little cheese and putting a little sauce of some sort (I liked taco sauce) on your eggs to make them a little less dry. Soft cheeses were one of the easier things for me to handle. I practically lived off of Shelly's Baked Ricotta (google the recipe).

I remember that slime coming up when I first tried to eat mushy food. Ick! I just put a teeny tiny bite in my mouth and mushed up really good and swallow. Then wait a bit before trying another bite. It will be trial and error for a while. I knew I was full when I started hiccuping.

soft scrambled with cheese was my first real food. chew really well and eat only a couple of bites and wait. I hiccupped like the OP when I was full. It is better to eat a little less than to eat even ONE too many bites. Its miserable.

it will get better.

I started on unsweetened applesauce then graduated to yogurt then refried Beans. Didn't have eggs for a while but I didn't enjoy them either. I still have some trouble with eggs at four months. It does get better. Puree is the WORST stage. Hang in there.

Your first attempt sounds identical to mine! I've now been on puréed for a week and it does get better. Hang in there!

I had that problem with refried Beans. So I had to cut them out. I think my problem was that I ate them too fast.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
