This Hair Loss is Horrific

Recommended Posts

My surgeon says Hair loss has nothing to do with Biotin, Protein, etc., so I can't offer any comments on eating something or using some sort of special magic potion to regrow hair. What I can tell you is that if you are feeling self-conscious because your scalp is showing through, check out a concealer product such as Toppik or Nanogen. They are super simple to use and they work! I used them before I had surgery because I already was suffering from bad hair loss (faulty genetics, I guess). They come in all different shades -- most people find that if they buy the shade they think is just one shade too light, it works better than trying to match their hair perfectly. You just gently shake the fibers over where your hair is thin, gently pat them into place, and give a quick sweep with hairspray. All those thinning parts just disappear.

Did anybody else have a major surgery prior to WLS and also lose hair then? I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and about 3-4 months after surgery lost a lot of my hair.

I thought it was more a side effect of the anesthesia at that time.

My sister had a baby by c-sec in March, and they told her that sometimes when your too overweight they can't find the spine to do the spinal block and after four tries ended up using anesthesia by iv to sleep. So in July/August she started experiencing mass Hair loss, she was literally balding around her hairline. I could see skin! Then I told her about reading on here that some say it's because off the anesthesia and just like others have reported in Oct she had little baby hairs filling in the bald spots!! It looked as if she had sprayed her scalp!! Lol

I was just reading somewhere that the hair fallout that happens is due to the lack of Protein intake in the two weeks following surgery. If you can't get your Protein in then, nothing will stop it. This makes sense to me based on the cycle of follicle growth.

It happened to me at month 6. It gets better. I am now at 14 months and it is growing back. Just focus on nutrition, rest, and getting stronger. I promise, it will be ok.

My hair is down to my waist. It took a long time to grow that long. I don't want to cut it off when it gets thin. I don't want short hair! I'm at 8 weeks - no shedding yet. I think I'll try the Rogain trick.

By the way I don't think it's from anesthesia I think it's from losing weight because when I lost 70 pounds a couple of years ago I had shedding as wel. At the time I blamed it on my hairdresser and frying my hair with bleach but it turns out I think it was actually shedding from weightloss, no anesthesia involved.

hair loss will be one of those mysteries to me.

When I had my hysterectomy & lost the hair after surgery, I wasn't more than 30lbs overweight & didn't lose any weight with the surgery.

With this WLS I need to lose 80lbs and I sure do plan to do everything I can to keep the hair I have.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
