Six days pre-op struggling with diet

Recommended Posts

I'm about six days away from my surgery. Scheduled 12/7. I've been on the preop liquid diet for over a week now and I am hating it. My stomach is no longer hungry but my head is like we need steak! I've tried adding more Protein, having more of the allowed foods and drinking Water. I hate Soups and honestly the thought of eating a Soup right now makes me even more nauseous. How do I get past this part? I know it's worth it and I know it is working but it's sooooo hard! Does anyone have any suggestions for other foods for this preop phase? I'm so close and don't want to fail now, but I am slightly bored and nauseated from the few choices I have right now!

Does your plan allow for sugar free Popsicles or sugar free Jello? I found that if I snacked on the sugar free Popsicles it wasn't as bad.

Hang in there- you can do it. It will be so worth the sacrifice you are making now.

Good luck to you!!

Yes! I can have popsicles and I am having one now. Actually starting to feel a bit better. No idea why I forgot about them! Just so much in my head! Thank you!

That's the hardest part to get past, head hunger - and being honest it's one of the hardest things you will have to try to combat after the surgery too. But i think it's good that you have a pre-op diet though, as I didn't and I had to deal with it after the surgery.

After a while you get used to not eating the food, and it's easier to focus on the foods you CAN eat.

It is definitely difficult and I had my own struggles but it is worth it. My organs were shrunk for the surgery like the diet is supposed to do and I had no complications which I am forever thankful for. Stay strong!!
