Has anyone gone through this process and had surgery with foster children in there home? We just finished our process of becoming foster parents we don't have children of our own but will soon have children in our home. I'm wondering if the state would be ok if I proceed with the surgery? We are in Texas. If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it.

I would suggest you get in touch with whomever your contact is for the process.

I am a foster parent, in fact during my two week preop we went (drove almost 400 miles to adopt one. And this Thursday, 11 days post op we are adopting our second.

These two have been foster kids in our home for over a year. I did however refuse to take any new kiddos during recovery and because of the holidays at this point I will wait until after Christmas. There is always such a great need for placements, God Bless you for what you are doing!! My suggestion is to not take any behavior ones until at least 4 wks post op. They can be a lot of work and very stressful and it's best if you focus on your healing (if you're like me you'll out the kids needs before your own)

Good Luck!

I'm a children's social worker and I can't imagine trying to build a relationship with a new child while trying to also build an understanding of your new body. Also you never know how long it will take your body to adjust to the changes. I say wait until a month or two after your surgery before you accept any new kids.

I was a social worker at a foster agency. If people were having surgery or developed serious health problems we took them off the list until they recovered. It wasn't fair to the kids or the foster parents to place while they were recovering.

Thank you so much for the replies. I'll look into the requirements of Texas. I would never do anything to jeopardize everything we have done and gone through to have children in our home as this has been my dream as we can't have children of our own. Again thank you everyone

Can I just say bless you for choosing to help in this way. I know there is such a tremendous need for good foster parents. I know that once you are recovered you will make a life-changing difference to some children's lives.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
