Bioluminescence 2 Posted December 1, 2015 Hello all, I'm a nursing student, and I'm getting sleeved over winter break (12/18). Next semester I have an internship in the OR, and I am planning on working in the OR once I graduate. I am wondering how folks in the OR get their fluids in, since you can't really be sipping Water throughout surgery. Any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much! lilbarn752 3 Posted December 3, 2015 I work in the OR and it's hard! Any little break I get (whether scrubbing or circing) I run out and try to sip at least 8 oz! It is a challenge though--I try to drink a majority in the am before work and at my breaks and lunch then sip all the way home! Good luck! I absolutely LOVE the OR! Bioluminescence 2 Posted December 5, 2015 Thanks for your input! I figured that I'd have to basically try to get my fluids in before and after a shift, but I'll try to sip when I get a break. I'll ask my preceptor where I can stash a water bottle for quick access. I am so excited to be in the OR!
nursonegreat 3 Posted December 8, 2015 I also work in the OR and it is HARD. Some days are better than others. Between cases I take the longer way and go thru the break room to check my next patient. Then take the long way back and sip more. Using quick feet so that the long route isn't noticed. It is hard tho, especially working 12hr shifts and especially on the days where I have an all day case and don't get out of the room except to break. But you can do it, best wishes on your future as an OR nurse
