Psych Eval - Dr. Dsurney - What to expect?

Recommended Posts

I have my psych evaluation next monday in Tampa, FL with Dr. Dsurney. It's strange, but out of everything I need to do pre-op, this is the only thing thats making me rather nervous. The receptionist said to expect to be there for about 2 hours. What in the world am I going to be doing for 2 hours?

Any idea what I should expect? Has anyone seen this guy specifically? I realize they want to be sure I know what I'm getting myself into, that I'm not being pushed and that I have a good support system. Additionally they'll want to be sure I'm doing this for the right reasons and that I'm not surgery-happy or drug seeking or something ..I understand that.. but how indepth are they going to get and should I expect to feel very "exposed" emotionally or is it more laid back than that?

Thanks!

Libby

My psych eval will be two hours too... One with the dr... the other hour is an "online" thing!

My team leader said it's just to make sure I'm not suicidal... or crazy... I think it's going to be INTERESTING!!!

Just relax and be yourself... I'm sure you'll do fine!

i took my psych eval about two weeks ago. it was the 'ole fill in the bubble type of test. one test had over 500 questions and the other about 300. there are plenty of questions like "are you suicidal, do you hate your family"...and things like that. a week later i met with the psych to go over the test. i asked her if i was sane, but she didn't answer me...:D we "discovered" that i was totally independent (didn't need a test to tell me that) and some other things. most importantly, the test revealed that i would do well with the band and i'm guessing that's all the insurance company really wants to know...that and me not being suicidal...:D

I had my evaluation today and it sounds like mine was very similar to k2k07's experience.

My doctor (Michigan/UofM) was wonderful. We talked though my expectations of the surgery, what weight-loss methods I had tried in the past, and what were some of my strategies for making the wls work for me.

I actually worked with two people today. The first man (I can't remember if he was a Doctor or not, but said to call him by is first name) administered the tests. When those were competed, I had the meeting with the Doctor.

They were both very nice and supportive. It was an emotional 3+ hours, because it's very draining, really looking at yourself and going though the self-evaluation process. However it was not a bad experience at all, and maybe even a little enlightening!
