Surgery 5/4/15 Band complete- how do I know IF i havent messed up my band

Recommended Posts

Have had my last "paid" appointment with my doctor. I have about 5 cc in my band, I have an appointment 12/16. I don't know if I need my band tighter or if I want them to just check my band with the x=ray to make sure I haven't don't anything like stretching it or screwing it up. Prior to this last fill, it seemed everything I put in my mouth had me hacking it back up. Since this fill, I have truly worked diligently to eat smaller portions and chew chew chew..so way less getting stuck. My thing is have I screwed anything up and should I keep this appointment before being launched on my 1 year post surgery. How would I know if I have done any thing wrong. I did go thru a period of eating more than I should (I think) but not feeling any discomfort. I know I have gotten off my diet and ate more than I should as well as drink wine during the holidays..How would I know if I have screwed up anything?

My plan is to keep my appointment, not get a fill and just have them assure me all is still going well

What makes you think there might be something wrong?

You say that prior to your last fill, everything you put in your mouth you would hack back up....and yet, they went ahead and gave you another fill....and now you are getting stuck way less.

This tells me two things...first, you're band is working. I would be more concerned if you could eat all you wanted with no feedback.

Second, when one gets their band adjusted, one also has to learn to modify their eating habits to stay in harmony with the band...you learned that also, and realized it was not the band that was too tight, but the fact you were not chewing enough...probably more careful what types of food you eat also.

You're Dr. feels it was that way also, and gave you yet another fill....and now there will be more lessons to learn...

And meanwhile the weight will come off.

My opinion, and that's all it is, my opinion, is that you are right on track...it is a learning process, and with these lessons comes a new lifestyle...and that to me was the only thing hard about this...learning to live all over again, breaking a lifetime of bad habits.

Thank you so much for your reply B-52. You are right it is a learning process, I don't think they will fill any more as she had me to swallow with the liquid and then without. Now just wondering if I need to get the all clear from the doctor to schedule out for a year. With this last bit of fill, I hardly ever get really hungry and now have to remind myself to either eat or drink a shake. Oh and on that very first bite to chew chew chew..and wetter is better!

So next appointment is 12/16 so maybe they will tell me then I don't have to come back..

Thanks again for your confirmation that I am on the right track

Diane

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
