Frikking FINALLY with the compliments!

Recommended Posts

Got my first post op compliment today! Woohoo. " Your FACE looks thinner." Really? 5 weeks into this and almost 25 lbs down with only 60 more to lose and that's it? Well, it's something! :)

It's so weird how this all works. I'm happy though... On my way to a new life!

I love the compliments too. Just be prepared for down the road when they stop. Be good to yourself and find the little improvements that matter to you, or that others may never see. Congratulations on the 25 pounds!

Definitely on your way !!!!!!!!!!!

I think most of us are our own best complimentors. We feel the looser clothes and the diminished joint pain....feel the pep in our step........and see the leaner person looking back at us in the mirror.

Just wait until beach season gets here and you are strutting around in the bikini in your avi. You'll be growing tired of the compliments. :P

It took 80 pounds before I got my first (and only) comment! It was actually quite discouraging because it made me think I didn't look much different than I did at 300 pounds. But on Thanksgiving I got my first comment and it Just made my day.

The comments actually bother me. I don't know why - and I think it depends on who they come from - but I find it embarrassing. Am I weird, or does anyone else feel this way?

Don't worry about it. People know you've lost weight, but from my experience only those closest will say anything. It wasn't until I got about 100lb off before acquaintances have mentioned it or asked me about it. Don't take it to heart, trust me, they can see it.

I'm sure they notice but may be too weirded out to say anything?

Maybe they can see you've lost weight but don't know how to ask without somehow offending you...?

Maybe they're thinking "what if I ask her if she's lost weight but she hasnt"

So maybe they're just playing it safe for now until they know for sure :)

I'm sure you look great with 80 pounds gone!!

It took about 70...yes SEVENTY...pounds before people started really noticing and complimenting me.

I think people have seen me in so many different states of weight loss, the 70 pound loss was the most they'd seen like...ever. Then you go from hardly any to anyone and everyone noticing!

Now I've been at goal for about 5 months or so, and they are getting used to how I look, so I don't get them as much anymore. Only from people I haven't seen for a while. To me, it's kind of demotivating :(

The lovely thing about compliments is they never expire. Take it and relive it again and again, always good for an unexpected goofy smile that'll have people wondering what's up.

Congrats!

A Co worker of mine had the same feelings as you. Whenever someone would compliment her on her weightloss, and how good she looks now, she feels as if she was the laughing stock before surgery. As far as I'm concerned after surgery should be your main focus. What people are saying about you now is what counts not what you were. Think positively and be proud of yourself.

Congrats to everyone working hard to be healthier and sexier ( you know you are now stop grinning) ????

My roommate and a friend started complimenting just few weeks out of surgery. Till today I think they were been nice and overly generous with their compliments trying to keep me motivated. They are my cheerleaders.

Then one day three weeks post surgery I walked into my work and everyone complimented that was when it hit me that people are noticing.

Last week, the flight attendant said I was very beautiful and she had noticed me at the gate. I was floored. All the fat from my body went to my head as it grew into the size of a boulder for a few seconds. When did people start noticing me from afar again? It has happened before in my slimmer days and I am no way close to that.

Let's enjoy the compliments shall we? But not lose track of our health goals.

Wow it sounds like the flight attendant was eyeing you up and possibly hitting on you!

Whether you "swing that way" or not, it's still nice to be noticed by both sexes ????

I loved reading this post and the replies! I don't want people to say anything except for my closest friends. It is embarrassing, to me, to have gotten to this point. I am hoping that my mind will change. But now I just don't want to say I have 100 lbs to loose. That is horrifying to me to even write that number. The people I know, for the most part, have 10 lbs MAYBE to lose. I am not looking forward to all the questions. A simple...you look nice will be enough!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
