Recommended Posts

I had surgery Nov 23rd 2015 and am 1 week post op! I am struggling with getting my Protien in and I want something solid...I am not hungry but I wanna chew something other than a darn vitamin!!! I still have another week and a half of liquid diet......how did u make it? I sip broth and eat Jello but I want real food!

Honestly this is the hardest part! I remember wanting to chew something so badly I thought I would lose my mind. In the end, I literally took it one day at a time until I got there.

I had chicken breast and veggies cooked soft for that first real meal. That chicken was incredible. But you must take it even slower than you think. If you find you cannot tolerate yet, go back on soft foods, it's worth the extra time to let your tummy heal.

Good luck! You are close and it will be here before you know it!

I hope so!! My dr appt is moved to Tuesday! I'm taking it one day At a time for sure. I'm wanting mashed potatoes or Mac n cheese first bc they are so soft. But really I would eat anything at this point!

It helped me tremendously to eat sugar free popsicles and soft ice flavored with Crystal light just to get over that need to chew. Hang on -- you will be chewing before too long! For me - I had lean pork loin with some brown gravy made from a packet and thought it was awesome!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
