RNYDawn 160 Posted November 30, 2015 My surgeon found a large hiatal hernia during my endoscopy so he wants to repair that during my RNY surgery. Will that mean my recovery will be much harder? Can anyone share what may make it harder or what part may be more difficult? Thank you!
sharkgirl 251 Posted November 30, 2015 I had a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time as my RNY and I didn't have any problems with recovery. I took very little pain meds in the hospital because they made me so sleepy and only took them at night for about 2 days once I was home. I was so excited to be free of the reflux and gagging on my saliva at night; first time in over 2 decades.

I know everyone is different but I'm hoping my recovery is like yours! I'm SOOOOO excited to be free of reflux too! How are you doing now?
sharkgirl 251 Posted December 2, 2015 I am doing really good. My weight loss is slow but it's more than would have lost on my own and my clothes are getting bigger. Not having the reflux has been amazing. I didn't realize how much it had impacted my life until it went away. I became the go to person for Zantac and I feel bad now because I don't carry it since I don't need it. Lot of luck to you for your surgery. It truly changes your life in so many ways.
