I was sleeved on 11/18. So far, things have been going well. I have lost about 14 pounds since my surgery. I recently started purees and I am not even close to the Protein intake that I need. I can't stomach Protein Shakes, I HATE THEM. I physically can't get them down without gagging and giving up on them. I am only able to eat 1/4 cup of food at a time, which I try to add unflavored Protein Powder to but it still isn't enough. I am tracking my caloric intake in a food diary and am only getting to about 400-600 calories a day. I can't imagine that this is healthy. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It is very normal to only get in that amount of calories. The Protein is what is most important. I was fortunate that I could drink Protein shakes, Premier, I still drink one every AM, and I am almost 4 months out. 30gms per shake. Have you tried the protein powders, I like Bariatric Advantage, 27gms protein, and I add blueberries, or banana, flavored yogurt, fat free milk of any kind, etc. Some people really like the unjury drinks, 40gms of protein per serving. I was fortunate to get in my protein from the first week, and I think it will make a difference in how well you heal and how you feel. Try whatever you can to meet the 70-80gms of protein a day, at least that was the requirement for me in my program. I am now up to 100-120gms a day. Good luck

My dietician said that you get the rest of the calories you need by your body burning your fat.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
