So I go tomorrow for my scope to see if I have a hernial hernia. I'm told that if I do my insurance will cover the surgery if not I'm back to square one, how many ppl have had the hernial hernia? I'm told most ppl do??

I had a hiatal hernia. My insurance didn't depend on the hernia as a reason not to pay for the surgery though. If the surgery is for your health then the insurance would be crazy not to take care of it! A healthier you = less money the insurance company has to pay in the long run. That was what the insurance people that I have told me.

What's the symptoms of a hiatel hernia? I have pain on my right side of my abdomen, underneath my ribs. I've had it off and on for 8 months. Now I'm getting worried

I actually had no pain at all. They found the hernia when they did my scope. As far as I know my only noticeable symptom has acid reflux. Have you spoken to your doctor about your pain?

I spoke to the dietitian and she said I have to go through my primary care physician for the pain. Ive been told by other docs that it is just muscle from my stomach pulling on it.

I also have GERD. I forgot to add that

If your Insurance Company doesn't cover WLS and you need surgery for a hiatal hernia, can you get the hiatal hernia repaired and gastric sleeve as well? That way, you get qualified for surgery?

I had/have GERD. Since the surgery I have had absolutely no pain from acid reflux at all. That being said I'm only about 3 weeks post surgery and I just may not have eaten enough to give me reflux. Time will tell.

I found out I had a hiatal hernia during scope. Had no symptoms at all. No acid reflux. I wondered if my insurance would pay differently due to that. I have Aetna and a $5000 co pay. I am going to check into it although I have my doubts.

I would think your insurance would pay for your hernia surgery. While doc is in there, have your WLS :)

Most surgeons will repair the hernia at the time of wl surgery. Mine was detected during my upper Gi and the Egd. Since gerd/reflux is common with the sleeve, repairing them will lessen the chances of you developing it. My surgeon said in severe cases revision to the bypass is needed. Knowing this I'd say insurances are eager to pay for the repair than to pay for a second surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
