Discomfort with drinking and eating

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I had gastric bypass on 10/06/15. I have noticed that every time I drink it is uncomfortable. I drink Water with some zero sugar flavored packets, similar to Crystal Light. Does anyone have this issue? Does it get better?

I had this issue as well. I'm almost 3.5 months out, and I noticed suddenly a week or so ago I no longer have that uncomfortable/pain/nauseous feeling whenever I eat or drink anything. I had sort of just accepted it was going to keep happening and now it only happens every couple of days. If it gets worse or worrisome, consult a doctor, but most likely you will feel better soon. :)

I am almost 10 weeks post op, and I have noticed the pain and nausea after eating as well. I have started keeping a food journal so I can see if there is a pattern. I have discovered that too much bread or Pasta (more than once a week) creates severe pain, and today I experienced it again, the only new food I introduced today was stuffed mushrooms (I have had mushrooms sliced or diced in things, but maybe the whole mushroom is too much). Anyway, I was worried about obstructions, but after reducing my intake of bread and pasta, the pain goes away. Good luck!

@@MNjulie, I've read that bread and Pasta are difficult after a gastric bypass surgery. Are others eating bread and pasta after surgery?

you might want to let your surgeon's office know. I had something like that start up the 3rd or 4th week (was having discomfort and nausea after I ate or drank anything - and occasionally vomited) and finally called the a week or 10 days later when the nausea and vomiting kept increasing. They sent me to the hospital for an upper endoscopy, and it turned out I had a stricture - which they "fixed" while they had me under. I felt a million times better afterward, and the nausea and vomiting was completely gone

I had my surgery on 10/12. I'm almost 8 weeks post op. My daughter has food allergies so our foods within our home are lil different to begin with. However she eats brown rice Pasta, it's delicious. I no longer buy anything else. I have no pain or discomfort when I eat it.

I can drink with no problems. However, I've lost the taste for crystal light and Mio.

I had bypass 10/21. I can drink comfortably with no problem. At first it would take me hours to drink a Protein Shake, now I can drink a Premier Protein in about 30-40 minutes. Some days I prefer something flavored like propel and other days just plain H2O. My program does not allow rice, bread, Pasta or quinoa. They have more low carb/paleo program.

I had rny on 10/26 and I find that if I drink cold Water it hurts a lot. So, I've been having room temperature water and when I drink Protein Drinks, I sip at first until the drink has warmed up some and then I can drink normally. Still having difficulty eating very much real food although I ate some roasted turkey breast yesterday and I think it went well.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
