Miss my diet pepsi :(

Recommended Posts

Yesterday was firsr family gathering and we had chicken alfredo lasagna. Im 2 weeks post op and was able to eat the lasagna but i didnt eat the noodles just the fillings. I was cool with watching everyone snack on chios, cheese and crackers. I did up a veggie tray for myself. I had a hard time when I opened my fridge and seen, the diet pepsi. I wanted a small glass so bad but fought the urge. So far that is the only thing I truly miss. Oh i did have 2 Ritz crackers with some guacamole on it to soften it up which I feel bad about :/

after a few weeks you should be able to have some. I drink a small bit of soda whenever I get the craving. If you really want the taste, take some and shake it up so the bubbles are gone and drink it that way

People have been known to flatten their pop so they can still drink it - but just without the carbonation

I was also told never to drink carbonated beverages and to wait a year for alcohol. Every nut is different but for me I know once I have the surgery I'm doing it to save my life so I'm not gonna mess it up because I can't say no to soda

i will be 3 years out next week and i have been drinking it almost the whole time with no issues at all....i am still down almost 200 since pre-op. if you are doing everything else correctly (diet / exercise) you should be fine.....having said that, everyones reaction to the carbonation is very different. on another note.....we should all give it up seeing how bad it is for us!!!

honestly, I think soda is only bad for you if you're drinking gallons of it. A cup or two won't kill you

Personally I only drink diet soda though

There are varying schools of thought on drinking sodas. I'm not a soda drinker so it doesn't bother me. It's up to the individual, but I think if you can wait until you are cleared for all foods as tolerated then try it. You may discover you no longer crave it, or you may be able to have it without any issues.

I found that I didn't crave soda so much as just something carbonated. I drank lots of seltzer and flavored sparkling waters pre op and I miss those.

I have always loved Diet Pepsi, to the point that if Coke products were being served I would just have Water. Since their "recipe" has just changed and a differently sweetener is being used, I can't stand Diet Pepsi. It's way too sweet. It's probably a good coincidence for me but I'll probably just stick to Crystal Light or ice water from now on.

I was a 3-4 Diet Pepsi a day addict! Gave it up two years ago almost to the day for pre op and haven't looked back. I have a craving hit about once every few months and ride it out. Carbonation still hurts my tummy but I feel like if I let it go flat and started back I would be back to 3-4 a day too quickly. And I do think for me it increased my appetite, the artificial sweeteners raised my blood sugar levels or something. I think it would be hard to quit again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
