How long before you start to lose?

Recommended Posts

I had my procedure 11/19/2015. I gained 7 lbs post op. Since then I went down six and then back up 1. I have had nothing but Protein shakes and Clear liquids. I find chicken broth particularly satisfying but wondering if the sodium is affecting this. Also, I can't always gag down 3 Protein Shakes a day. Some days it is only two and Thanksgiving I only drank one because I had two bowls of chicken broth that day. I thought the weight would be down a little by now. I had managed to lose 20 lbs prior to the pre-op diet. Lost five more during the pre-op but since surgery I'm still actually up two lbs. I need a little encouragement. Also, I don't know if I'm experiencing real hunger or head hunger. Woke up this morning hungry and was hungry Thanksgiving day and yesterday.

You really can't go by the numbers on the scale soon a after surgery: you are full of IV fluids, swollen from surgery, and in general flux.

Just focus on getting in all of your Protein and fluids. It's hard but you have to keep at it. Just keep sipping, follow your plan, and stay off the scale.< /p>

I agree with @@Inner Surfer Girl. You are way too soon after surgery to be worrying about ANYTHING but getting in your fluids and your Protein. Have somebody hide the scale or give it to a neighbor. If you want to obsess about numbers (lets face it, we all have a tendency to do this), then obsess about tracking all your fluids and your Protein.< /p>

Your body has one job right now: healing. Not anything else. Healing. It will get on with the job of weight loss, but healing comes first.

Good luck, now have some Water.

I can't say it any better than the previous posters, but since it can't be said enough, here it is.....get in all your fluids, get in all your Protein and stay.off.the.scale. It really is that simple.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
