I'm a little over four months out and my hair is falling out so fast. My hair is thin to begin with and starting to feel scared. Well I used everything I've read to use but nothing is working. Just wondering how long does this last and how long before it grows back?

What all have you used? I am 12 days post op and losing my hair is my biggest fear. I started bariatric Vitamins, prescription, a month ago. Nasal spray B12 and chewable multi Vitamin and chewable Calcium, 1800 mg, a day. I hope that will keep me from losing hair. You may check out the vitamins. Google nascobal b12 nasal spray. It costs me $25 a month. I was taught also to take 600 mg (I think mg, I would have to check out my bottle) of calcium at a time. Also how much Protein a day are you getting in? It is imperative that you get that protein in for Hair growth.

There doesn't seem to be any magical solution that I can see. Some get it, some don't. There are posters who aim for 100 gms of Protein and swear that helps. Others take hair Vitamins that contain Biotin and collagen, and swear by that. My NP says it just active weight loss. All the protein you take in is being redirected to your body as you lose weight. Hence the hair and nails suffer. Cutting hair short and lessening how much you manipulate you hair may help. For example if you are a daily washer can you wash every other day. If it is really concerning you can consult a dermatologist to see if they have any recommendations.

Sound like you have all your bases covered, the bases I know of at least. I do read it always grows back, so be sure you tell me the same thing if it happens to me :)

Good luck with everything!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
