If you are approved for solid, dense foods then sure. I didn't start eating it until about 4 months out, but Jerky is now a staple food item for me....beef, elk, turkey, bison and even bacon jerky. I Eat it several times/week.

Started eating Jerky at 5 months. I don't eat it as often as I'd like because I think the high sodium sometimes hinders my weight loss. But I love it, especially the flavored ones. I try to buy them at costco to keep the cost down, as my husband can eat a boatload of it, too.

Before surgery I loved it, but since then not so much. I think my increased sensitivity to sodium has turned me off to it.

Jerky is great......but can be super high in sodium.

Jerky is on the approved list with my surgeon once patients hit solid food. I'm pre-op, so afraid I can't offer any advice on incorporating it into a post-op diet.

More importantly, they make bacon jerky?!!!

I like jerkey too (been eating it since 8 weeks out), but dumped on some yesterday... Guess I have to read the ingredients more carefully. I normally stick with plain or peppered, but ate some Terriyaki jerkey yesterday that had a lot of sugar.

I just saw bacon Jerky at Cracker Barrel today.

bacon jerky is awesome. It's more moist than beef jerky and the bits of fat can be a bit chewy, but it tastes so good

I got myself a box like this, I could eat one for a meal

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
