I agree that you MUST be ciommitted to working your band for the weight to come off in a healthy manner. But I also believe you need to have full confidence in your Dr. Heaven forbid you have some sort of complication, you want to feel safe and secure in his/her treatment of you. If you feel this Dr. would treat you properly even if you do not take his advice concerning the band, and you want to stick with him, then do so. I just encourage you to find someone (him or someone else, either way) that you have faith in their ability, statistics on how many bands they have done, what their complication rate is....find out about your Dr. They DO matter! Your life is going to literally be in their hands. You will have to do the head work yes, but the Dr. is a HUGE factor in this surgery, IMHO.

The lapband is much slower. I had to lose about 102 lbs. I am 14 months in and have only lost about 55 lbs. So yes, it can be slower for some of us. I am an average loser.

Sorry that you can't change surgeons :cry. I'm scheduled for lapband next month and I'm looking to lose about 140 lbs. Gastric Bypass has never been an option for me and I hope that it never will be. My surgeon believes that I can do GREAT on it. He told me that on average people lose about 50-60% of their excess weight with the lapband (versus 70-80% with the RNY). Although 50-60% is the norm, that doesn't mean that with discipline and hard work we can't very well exceed that "norm". I trust what my doctor tells me, especially since he's with a "Bariatric Surgery Center for Excellence" :car:

cherylgymnast -- please don't come on here and try to convince someone, who is obviously at the end of trying everything they know to try, that they can go on "another diet" that you lost 20 lbs. on. She said she has over 100 lbs. to lose. You have no idea what that is like unless you have been there and done that. Thank you very much.

Well said Jenny! I wish i had 20 pounds to lose LOL!

I think your doctor is misinformed. A lot of doctors lean towards the bypass because the banding is relatively new.

I know two people personally who had the gastric bypass and lost about 100 pounds each BUT streched their stomach back to a normal size by overeating. (Something you cannot do on the band or you will suffer!:omg:) They are now both about 150 pounds overweight!

I am scheduled for banding on August 7th and I think it will be the best decision ever.

Good Luck!:clap2:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
