Advice needed.

Recommended Posts

Just hoping someone can give me advice. I had my surgery 3 years ago. I lost my weight fairly quickly. I struggled with eating but thought that would settle down with time. Now I have a hiatus hernia and still struggle to eat. I cannot maintain a healthy weight and just feel weak. I have been back to my surgeon and had tests but he doesn't seem to be able to do anything for me. Feel like I am just slowly starving to death. Please, no nasty answers, I am desperate for help.

Can you drink OK? Like Protein drinks? High-calorie drinks?

If your life is endangered, you have to figure out how to get your calories. Although we were instructed post-op not to "drink your calories," it's time to do so now (if you can). Get stronger.

And if your surgeon can't help, you must find other doctors who can.

Good luck.

If you are not seeing a Bariatric doctor I would do so immediately. I find that almost every doctor that is not part of that group have no idea how to deal with us.

If your doctor that you mention is, then I would find a new doctor.

In the meantime, I would definitely take the recommended Vitamins for your surgery. Bypass: B12, Calcium Citrate, Vitamin D and a multi Vitamin daily and leverage good quality Protein shakes to supplement until you get to the bottom of this.

I hope things turn around soon. Your situation is scary and I cannot imagine how crappy you must feel.

What type of struggle are you having? Throwing up, loss of appetite? If it's vomiting, is it certain foods or everything? Can you eat multiple small meals throughout the day?

I would definitely start back with shakes and seek out medical assistance whether that be a gastroenterologist or a baritric specialist.

Please keep us posted. I hope you can locate someone to help you.

It really depends on how your struggling. Is it physical? Emotional? Mental? Give us more info.

I've also struggled with food intake for a variety of reasons. It can be very challenging and scary to lose too much weight.

There are a lot of dangers involved to being underweight. I have a slow heart rate, abnormally low blood pressure, malnutrition, and hair loss. This is just the beginning.

Don't wait and go see whomever it is you need to see to get this sorted out immediately.

And if you give us more info maybe we can give more specific advice. :) hang in there.

I lost 12stone in about 3 year period and like u at times I felt it a great struggle. I found it best to eat small meals as many times a day as I needed. knowing when to stop is a major part. However never put your health in danger, maybe u now need to have a half mil defill whilst u build yourself back up. Remember why u had this done in the first place to feel and look better, neither will happen if you let your health deteriate, good luck I wish u well

@@WendyLee what surgery did you have? How long has this been going on- the under nourished?

I went through a time when I was heading down this path. In my case, what seemed to be physical (just could not eat much of the time) turned out to be emotional and I reversed course before I had health consequences. I had to work hard at it and accept help too.

A lot to think about with all this valuable advice. I had gastric sleeve surgery. I lost 100 lbs and my BMI is 23.5 so I am considered healthy but I just don't feel healthy. This problem didn't start out as emotional but after reading your comments I am considering whether it has become that way. The problem is, I now hate eating. I hate the sensation of food sitting in my stomach. It's actually painful and feels like I have a pile of sharp rocks in there. Thanks again and I will seek help.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
