JenniferP1 75 Posted November 26, 2015 Sleeved on 11/5 and going to a potluck next week where I have to bring an appetizer. Any thoughts??? Will be transitioning from puréed phase to soft foods... Thanks!
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted November 26, 2015 Do a layered bean dip. Sour cream (or plain greek yogurt. It taste the same and is full of protein), pureed black Beans ( you can toss some whole ones in for presentation but skip them when your eat), guacamole. Top with a layer of diced tomatoes (you skip those) and shredded cheese. Your guest can dip chips and veg into and eat, you can eat all the soft layers. If you do it in a glass dish the colors look nice too.
songsmith 334 Posted November 26, 2015 I'm pre-op, so have no idea, but would a salsa pureed to mask the bits work instead of the tomatoes? Or is the acid in tomatoes and the other salsa ingredients not likely to sit well?
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted November 26, 2015 It would end up looking like Tomato Soup. You need diced tomatoes or salsa for presentation & mouth appeal for non Bariatrc folks.
songsmith 334 Posted November 26, 2015 Thanks! As soon as you mentioned it I pictured what would happen if I blended half a cup of salsa or so! Pretty hard to use as a dip. Do you find spicy things upset you? Hmm, probably different from person to person.
BLERDgirl 6,417 Posted November 26, 2015 I ate a lot of spicy foods pre-op. I had no problems returning back to them. I was adding a splash of Sriracha to my Soup during the full liquids stage. I stopped using it when I had a bit of acid from around months 3 -6. No sense eating something that could potentially make things worse. Now I can use it so problem. For the most part I've had a cast Iron stomach throughout the entire process. Nothing really upsets my tummy.
songsmith 334 Posted November 26, 2015 Awesome! That's great news. I hope I'm able to retain my cast Iron stomach, too. I'd be sad if I had to give up my spicy food.< /p>
