Hi! I just discovered this app and have been reading like crazy! I have battle losing and gaining weight for 20 years. I started looking into WLS about a year ago and then finally took the plunge 6 months ago. I completed all the classes and tests the dr recommended and now have a surgery date of 12.7.15. I'm beyond excited!! However, I'm nervous about Thanksgiving tomorrow. I have been very disciplined up until now but since I'm on a liquid diet for 2 weeks I'm just scared all mess up tomorrow surrounded by food. My family is all supportive and I don't want to skip out on the time I will be able to spend with them. I have mixed feelings because the dietician says only liquid Proteins but I read I could eat lean proteins. I don't want to mess myself up but I'd also love to eat a small piece of turkey too. Just need some encouragement I guess.

Congratulations on taking such a big step toward health. Best of luck with your journey.

As to whether or not you can have turkey tomorrow, why not give your NUT a call and ask. It is very important to follow your pre-op plan, but if you are ever in doubt then just ask.

Please be sure where you read information on the pre-op diet came only from your nutritionist and not from someone's post online. Our orders for the pre-ops and phasing back to solid foods vary greatly from surgeon to surgeon. If your doctors office approved it, go for it!

@@wright325 - ALWAYS contact your medical team, if in doubt especially now in the pre-op phase.

It may or may not be ok to eat a small piece of turkey tomorrow since surgery is on the 7th of December. If surgery was tomorrow your answer would probably be no, period.

Congratulations on getting your new Birthday scheduled!

Remember every dr has their own protocol so check with your surgeon and his staff. Check Dr.Matthew Wiener on YouTube search on Eating After Bariatric Surgery

Thank you for the encouragement. I'm just gonna avoid it to be on the safe side. Better safe than sorry. I just found the papers the NUT gave me when I started this and meat of any kind is not on the list so better stick with the plan they have me on!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
