Yes. I'm a slow loser. I'm coming up on a year, and "only" have lost 88 pounds. And the last half of the year, I was lucky to see 6-8 pounds a month on the scale (if that). There are lots of slow losers - I'd wager that for every one person that loses weight super fast, there are at least 2-3 that are losing slower than "normal."

Three months out and down 34 pounds... that is awesome. When was the last time you had a steady weight loss like that? Ever? I know I never had that. ;)

You can't compare yourself to others - that's a discouraging and false premise. Your body will lose weight at the rate that it loses, not at the rate that someone else loses, or what anyone else (even your doctor) thinks you should be losing.

It may be due to metabolism, how you're managing food and exercise, even your sleep schedule can have an effect on weight loss (not enough sleep and you'll stall out more easily).

The number on the scale is also not the only number you should be checking. You can be losing fat and gaining muscle and seeing significant losses in the tape measurement/how your clothing fits and not see weight loss on a scale, since a pound of fat is much bulkier than a pound of muscle. It is recommended that you take measurements (like chest, arms, waist, hips, legs) so you can see if those are also changing for the better when it seems like you're stalled or losing slowly.

The best thing you can do for yourself is to not judge your progress based off of anyone else. As long as you are hitting your Protein requirements, keeping your calories in range and exercising (all according to what your doc/NUT told you), you will be fine.

Just remember - this is not a race. You'll get there in the end, you just have to keep going forward!

You aren't a slow loser! You are average. My surgeons office said my loss of 35lbs at 3 months was perfect. At 4 1/2 months I'm over 50lb loss. Let's say this. Some people on here are FAST losers but 35lbs at 3 months is great. Go try and pick up 7- 5lb sacks of sugar.

Its better to lose slow that quick!! You are doing awesome.

Your body is going through soo many adjustments, be patient...

At times your weightloss will seem slow, other times fast.

My loss feels slow also in the last month. I did well pre-op and the first month, but now in month four it feels super slow. I'm doubling down on the eating habits, dropping one snack during the day and resuming tracking on my phone for Protein totals and total calories. I have NOT been exercising and that is also a problem. I just hate hate hate it and so I don't do it. Need to start at least three times a week. Need to...

Keep up the great work. 35 pounds is nothing to sneeze at.

Also, the 74 pounds on my tracker below is from my highest weight. I'm only down 40 since my surgery 8/11/15.

Thank you sparkle time for this graph!

I have been feeling confused as I have lost 20pound at the 6 week mark (no stalls just slow and steady losses).. And some people who have lost much more than me are upset at their loss..

This graph indicates I am exactly where I'm expected to be (as the nut & surgeon told me).

Start weight was 220- BMI 33

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
