How far out from surgery are you?

After RNY surgery, I completely lost my appetite. I found it difficult to eat hard foods, such as steak and chicken. I found that eating softer foods such as chili and Soups worked well for me. I have included a few recipes in the following article.

I had an appetite the first two weeks after surgery, now none. I get a little hungry late in the day so I have been having soft Protein. I'm just now at four weeks and I'm so happy JamesMaurek has posted his stuff because he is accurate with his information, always, and I remember reading some of his recipes before surgery and thinking they sounded like things I would like post op. At five months out these should work fine for you. James, I'm copying all of your recipes this time.

I am five months out and really struggle with foods to eat. My smell has been heightened since surgery so if I cook something, the smell will get to me. I eat all types of Soup and have recently started trying different meats. Usually after a couple of bites I don't want it. What I don't need as much is what settles well on my stomach. So I still depend on Protein Shakes.

At that time I was living off Progresso Soups with 8grams or higher Protein, cottage cheese, fruit and Dannon 80's yogurt.

My whole life before the surgery I hated mashed potatoes, now I cant get enough of them.

I am 4.5 months out and am still struggling with what to eat. I'm still eating chili almost daily. I try to make homemade but often have to resort to a can. Fortunately the can lasts for 3 meals! I have been doing meats and stews in the crockpot that I tolerate fairly well, like salsa chicken or beef stew. I can't do chicken anymore unless it's completely soft. Scrambled eggs are a big part of my diet as well. I'm tending to stick with foods that can be easily measured in a 1/4 cup scoop.

As long as your blood levels are coming back in good range and you feel well, then I think it's OK, it won't be forever. My thought is let's lose as much as we can while we don't feel like eating!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
