Surgery 12/1 and having wisdom tooth problems

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am hoping someone knows or has been in a similar situation. I have never had surgery before and I have a partial impacted wisdom tooth that is poking out of the gum. I was supposed to have it removed last Saturday but the dentist would not do it because I have a wicked cold. I am freaking out cause my surgery date is approaching, I'm worried my tooth could be infected? I don't know though. I really hope my surgery won't be postponed again. Has anyone ever had wisdom tooth/dental problems?

Dental issues can be serious. If you have an infected tooth your surgery may be postponed. Call and speak with your doctor ASAP to see if they can do something to prevent surgery being postponed.

BLERD GIRL is correct. I would call the surgeon. Does the dentist have you on an antibiotic or did he have you on an antibiotic for your tooth? I just know that if you have an infected tooth and it is not treated, it can lead to serious problems, the infection can poison your body but i'm sure your dentist is monitoring this, right? I personally wouldn't want my surgery until the dental issues are completely cleared up, even if it had to be postponed. Make sure your dentist knows about your upcoming surgery.

Definitely make sure your dentist knows you have an up coming surgery. And make sure your surgeon knows about the tooth. If your already on an antibiotic them make sure your surgeon knows. When is your wl surgery scheduled? Hopefully the antibiotics do not interfere with it.

I went to the dentist and he gave me a syringe to clean the flap of skin that covers the tooth. The surgeon does not want me getting it out that close to surgery. I will have to get it out 4-6 weeks after surgery. I do however have a sinus infection now:( My surgery is scheduled Dec 1st. I called my surgeon and he said it should be fine, cause I will be cleared up by then. Thank you for the replies I was so worried. I'm def not looking forward to getting out after surgery :/

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
