Why are you staying away from carbs? Just curious... My doc says I need them.

For people that get dizzy when they stand up too quickly its a condition called orthostaic hypertension its very common with weight loss surgery and might go away on its own when your out of the losing phase ive had it my whole life and my best tips are to go slooooooow when switching from sitting to standing its not a race plus if you fall due to dizziness you could knock yourself out

I am 3 months post-op.

Stalled at 3 weeks, but that has been the only one.

Just ride it out. You will get through it!

Many people choose to avoid carbs or go low carb. I don't but it's not uncommon.

I am so incredibly disappointed. I have not lost a single pound in 3 weeks. I get all my Protein and fluids in. And I just say NO to carbohydrates. BUT STILL NOTHING. I realize my BMI was lower than others so I am not expecting big numbers every week. But I eat so much better than before surgery, I should have some results!

And a new side effect appeared this week, dizziness. I am dizzy all the time. I don't even think it's safe to drive anymore. What have I done to myself?

Try just adding a few more ounces of Water. Dehydration can fuel stalls and cause ortho static hypotension (dizzy spells).

I have tried to increase my Water intake and very little carbs for me

Fluids are so important. Keep sipping. Set a timer or reminder if you need it. Suck on crushed ice. Eat sugar-free Popsicles. Use crystal light or Mio drops. Whatever works for you just keep at it.

Are you tracking your calories? I'm of the belief that low carb is not enough. If your eating too many calories, you won't lose weight period the end.

@@bellabloom, I must admit I'm not tracking calories. I also believe I'm not getting enough fluids or Protein. I am 4 weeks out and only have lost 25lbs. I was given the ok to eat regular food. Nothing really even looks appealing and then why I try to eat, its only a few bites and I feel like its either stuck or I'm so full. I'm sick. . . . I have only been able to keep 100 calorie cottage cheese fruit cups down or instant Breakfast. At first I was really happy with the surgery and now lots of regret. Not eating and having lost not much weight, its really starting to bum me out :(

First off, take the word "only" out of your vocabulary. When was the last time you lost 25 lbs in four weeks? That's more than five pounds a week! That is awesome. Track every gram of Protein, every bite. And hydrate. I have had two major stalls since my surgery in August. Both times, for whatever weird reason, they lasted for 9 days each. Then I lost like two or three pounds overnight.

Don't be discouraged. As long as you are following plan it will come off.

You're "4 weeks out and only have lost 25 lbs." And you started at 219 pounds, which is a light starting weight for WLS. Where in the world did you get the idea that losing 25 pounds in 4 weeks was "having not lost much weight"?

You have lost an incredible amount of weight! Your expectations of what's a normal weight loss rate are completely unrealistic.

FYI, I lost 10.4 pounds my first month and was 216 pounds on the day of surgery. I reached my weight loss goal 8.5 months later. Since then I've lost another 12 pounds and am steadily maintaining at 138 pounds 15+ months post-op.

You're doing great in terms of weight loss. Maybe even a little "too great."

However, if you're not hitting your Protein and Water targets, you need to do what it takes to make that happen. Not enough Water will make you dizzy (you don't want to be fainting / falling) and make you feel completely exhausted all the time. Eventually, too little water could retard your weight loss and even harm your kidneys. Not enough protein will make you lose more muscle mass and less fat. Both of those shortages could cause you health problems.

@VSGAnn, Maybe I needed to hear your thoughts, sometimes I just want the weight to fall off, and I have myself thinking if I dont eat and drink it will come off faster, very wrong

Oh BTW my surgery was 10/29/15 - weight 245lbs today I weighed 219, yes I should be Thankful

Sometimes it just helps to vent and hear others thoughts

You don't get bonus points for not eating. As a matter of fact, getting enough nutrition is critical for healing and weight loss. Not eating, restricting, and other disordered eating habits are counterproductive and dangerous.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
