Bored with food choices!

Recommended Posts

I need some new ideas for my food planning. I am tired of eating tuna, fish, hummus, cottage cheese. Anyone have some good food suggestions. I am on regular food. Been doing shake for Breakfast, hummus for mid morn snack, tuna for lunch, and Gordon's tilapia or salmon for dinner and cottage cheese for second snack.

I'm going to tell you something we were taught not to do as kids; play with your food! Start with the Protein you like and then spin it. Try a new seasoning, check out recipes on Pinterest or Eggface. Try a new flavor combo. One year I tried a new veg every 3 months. I discovered celery root, namé and fiddle head ferns. Go to an ethnic market and try something new. Especially if it's a lose bin market where you pay by the pound. Buy a small amount and try it out. Try vegetarian food, try Italian, Mediterranean, Indian seasonings, etc....

I am getting really creative with food but it takes up all of my weekend. I make this yummy pesto chicken with ratatoutille. I buy the basil pine nuts garlic olive oil parm etc and make my own pesto from scratch (you can find any number of pesto recipes at epicuious.com). Then I get a free range organic chicken around 4 lbs. rinse the cavity (remove giblets if there are any first). Add salt and pepper squeeze some fresh lemon juice inside there. Chop some onions celery and carrots. Mix several tablespoons of your pesto in with the chopped veg and stuff the bird with that mixture plus a lemon wedge rind goes in first and last. Pour some chicken broth in the bottom of the pan. If there is any leftover chopped veg pesto mix that would not fit in bird mix that in bottom of pan with chicken broth to infuse flavor. I set my bird in a little rack in the pan then slather pesto on the breast skin (which I later remove). Preheat that oven to 350 degrees F but when you actually put the chicken in turn it down to 275 degrees F and roast that bird for about 3 hours. To roast along with the bird make the ratatouille. Julienne (slice thin strips) of red peppers, zucchini, eggplant, red onions and any other veg you wish. I add about a pound of sliced mushrooms but this is not a classic ratatouille ingredient. Some folks also throw in some diced plum tomatoes (don't dare use canned here). So my 9x13 dish is completely mounded almost overflowing with veg. I put that in right next to the chicken. After 45 mins - 1 HR I stir the veg so that the ones on the bottom don't get burnt until the are fully roasted (they are fully cooked and still moist but not soupy). I reserve at least one half to one third of the pesto, which I mix and melt into the hot veg when they are done. When the chicken is done and after it rests for about 20 minutes, I gently peel back the skin and fork shred (using two forks) all the white and dark meat that I can which is quite a bit. I then mix all that melt in your mouth chicken with the veg pesto mixture. Add fresh ground Himalayan sea salt and pepper to taste. That is a truly yummy soft food. If you want some more Fiber you can also mix in a drained and rinsed can of canellini (white) Beans. That makes something close to 12 servings for a sleever. I store in 1 cup glass containers in the freezer. I microwave for about 4 mins heat and serve for lunch or dinner. Yum yum. Slow roasting is the key to soft meat. The chicken will literally melt in your mouth.

That does sound yummy. I will have to try that. I have made and froze chili and a few other things. It is very helpful, although my freezer doesn't allow me to freeze a lot of stuff. Guess I just need to get more creative.

Crustless quiche. You can add any meats or veggies your diet allows along with your favorite cheeses. Same with omelettes.

Crab cakes, seafood salad, salmon, tilapia.

cheese. Real, full fat, delicious cheese.< /p>

Avocado, deviled eggs, ham salad, olives, edamame, meatballs with different sauces.

Think appetizer menus! I love finger foods and cookbooks have great ideas for little Protein portions.

low sodium spam (if thats your thing)

string cheese

lunch meat

oatmeal (with dry milk protein)

crab sticks

Avacado mousse (avacado, milk & sugar blended to a thick consistency)

Sardines in hotsauce

I'm still struggling myself but hope this helps a little!

Thanks all. These are very helpful. Another problem I have is I don't like a lot of things. Such as eggs, crab, sardines, and spam. I have been doing avocados, salmon, hummus, tuna and cheese. Love cheese, and think I over eat the cheeses. I did do the PB in my shake and found I couldn't drink it all, because I was full pretty quick.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
