Is my Sleeve working?!

Recommended Posts

I'm 10 days post op and I feel like I can drink Water the way I used to and same with Protein Shakes. I haven't felt so full that I'm not feeling good and I'm hungry (or so I think I am). Help - is something wrong with me?!

I went through the exact same thing! I even asked my husband if he was sure the surgeon even did my surgery! No, there's nothing wrong with you. During your surgery, some nerves were severed when cutting out part of your tummy. Until they heal, you may not feel a sensation of fullness. ( I didn't. I felt terribly hungry, too). Try to focus on taking small drinks at a time, measure all your food or liquids to make sure you're getting the right amount. Your tummy is still healing. This part isn't easy, but it will get better. You've got this!!

Congratulations - you are having an easy recovery! It's entirely normal for liquids to go straight on through with minimal restriction - that's what liquids do, lol. Some people have a harder time with them at this point because they have more significant inflammation in their stomach, making things flow through like a pinched soda straw, but that resolves as the swelling goes down. That's why we are told to sip, sip, sip our liquids, to avoid them coming back up if things are inflamed down there. If not, enjoy.

My wife was very restricted on liquids at this stage, while I had virtually none and was similarly concerned about it - we were simply at opposite ends of the range of normal outcomes.

Liquids don't always satisfy hunger all that well, and also, excess stomach acid can feel like hunger, so a PPI or other type of acid reducer is usually prescribed early on - if you are not on one, ask your surgeon about it.

I was the same way. I even called the doc to make sure he actually did the surgery lol Once you start eating actual food you will feel the restriction and won't be able to eat much. Best of luck to you!

Congratulations on the easy recovery. I was the same way. Believe me, when you start eating pureed foods, you will discover that restriction. My old stomach was made of hardened steel so it has been a bizarre experience having my sleeve bring me to my knees if I eat too much or too fast. I had to name her so when we argue, I have something to call her. Damn Runt.

Oh, and many of the people who had surgery at the same place I went asked for pictures of the removed stomach during surgery. I didn't ask for mine, but I've seen some of theirs. Wooooow!

I'm the exact same, I'm 8 days post op and started purees yesterday, so far I haven't had that "full" feeling yet. I've heard it can be because liquids and purees can slide easily through the sleeve, was anybody else the same?

From the comments I have read from others we will get that feeling when our nerve endings heal in our stomach. Tonight was the first time, and Im 12 days post, that I felt stuffed. All i had was chicken thigh and literally spoon of mashed potatoes. I finally feel like it is working :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
